Season Programming

Players that participate in Positively Hoops need to be in grades 3rd-8th and attend schools that feed into Beaver Dam High School with the intent on attending Beaver Dam High School through residency in the Beaver Dam Unified School District. If you have questions on participation, please email us.

Positively Hoops is a competitive, traveling team organization that works to build basketball skills through practices, skill-sessions, and game play in order to develop basketball players that enjoy the love of the sport. Through the course of participating in Positively Hoops, players may also learn social and life skills that will help them throughout their childhood and as adults as they face accomplishment, adversity, disappointment, supporting teammates/friends, and celebration.

The season will begin roughly in late October 2023 and run through February 2024 for younger grades and March 2024 or April 2024 for older grades.

Practices: There will be 1-2 practices per week held in Beaver Dam Unified School District gyms ranging from 60 - 90 minutes per practice.

Tournaments: Teams travel to tournaments anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes away from Beaver Dam. For example, Wisconsin Dells, Milwaukee suburban area, Appleton area, and other areas generally within that radius around Beaver Dam. The exception to this may be State tournaments at the end of the season that occur throughout the state that some families may consider overnight hotel stays due to multiple-day tournaments.

Teams participate anywhere from 6 tournaments at younger levels to roughly 10 tournaments at older levels on Saturdays or Sundays.

At many tournaments, our teams are expected to have someone (typically a parent) operate either the game scoreboard or keep the official scorebook, along with someone from the opposing team. It is helpful for those that are comfortable with these responsibilities to rotate this responsibility between games or weekends so that parents are able to enjoy watching their child play.

Positively Hoops players, coaches, and families are expected to positively represent Beaver Dam on and off the court treating tournament hosts, officials, players, coaches, and fans with respect and adhere to the guidelines, protocols, and rules of the tournament hosts.

Fees for Positively Hoops are as follows:

2022-23 Season: $200.00
2022-23 Season (Payment Plan): $225.00

Uniform Fee (Shorts Only): $45.00

Home Tournaments

We host two tournaments in Beaver Dam that our teams play in as well.

Just Gettin' Started
November 11, 2023 - Boys
November 12, 2023 - Girls

Winter Classic
February 3, 2024 - Girls
February 4, 2024 - Boys

Family Work Hours
In order to have these tournaments be successful, we have a strong history of parent participation to make these happen. It is a requirement that families work 6 hours in total at these tournaments during the season. With 2 additional hours for families with each additional child. Families that do not work their hours are subject to be invoiced $150. Failure to not put in the required hours or pay the fee will result in their children unable to participate in the remainder of the current season and future Positively Hoops seasons. We have generally not had an issue with this in the past and are encouraged by the support of all of our families to make these tournaments successful so that we can continue to operate like we do. These home tournaments are a large reason we are able to pay for the tournaments that our teams attend and keep fees at a minimum.

Opportunities to sign-up for tournament work hours will occur in the month leading up to each of the home tournaments and communicated through email and on our Facebook page.

Uniforms

Uniforms need to be purchased by each player when they join Positively Hoops. The jersey includes having their name on the back and available each season to buy a new jersey and/or shorts when new sizing is needed or when Positively Hoops determines that updated uniform styles are needed. Uniform ordering will take place after Registration closes, prior to the start of the PH season.

Off-Season Programming

Outside of the basketball season, Positively Hoops also makes available other opportunities for players to develop skills including activities such as:

  • leading, regional expert skills camps (additional cost)
  • summer skills & drills open gyms (no additional cost)
  • 10,000 Shot Club (no additional cost)

Facilities

Practices are held in Beaver Dam Unified School District (BDUSD) facilities. Positively Hoops will adhere to BDUSD health & safety protocols at the given point in time.
